Schools are one of the most important factors considered when families with children are deciding where to buy their next home. Below are links to the public school systems for the counties surrounding Charlotte. There you will find school calendars, hours, locations, contact numbers for school zoning questions, and enrollment numbers. If a particular school zone is a must for your new home, always confirm any potential addresses with the school as school zoning can change. For newcomers, Charlotte-Mecklenburg covers most of the properties you may be looking for in Charlotte, Huntersville, Pineville, Mint Hill, and Matthews. Cabarrus county schools cover Concord and Harrisburg while Kannapolis city schools have a separate website. Union schools cover Weddington, Waxhaw, Marvin, Monroe, and Indian Trail. Iredell schools cover certain Mooresville and Davidson addresses while Mooresville Schools only cover certain areas in the city. If you are looking for properties west of Lake Norman like Denver or Lincolnton, search in Lincoln county schools. Charter or magnet schools will also be included in the links below to the corresponding county.

Another website which I find useful is NC Report Cards. This site includes statistical information broken down by school and then compares it to county and state averages. Number of board certified teachers, student-teacher ratios, and teacher turnover can also be found on this website. GreatSchools.org is another popular resource for school ratings.
Alternative School Choices
If you would rather go the private school route, Charlotte Magazine has had some good articles to help narrow down your list of favorites as the process can be quite time consuming. Keep in mind that most private schools start the selection process in late fall for the following school year. Use this link to get an overall feel of the size, cost, and location of private schools.
